Q: What is the Municipal Land-Use Law?

A: The Municipal Land-Use Law (MLUL) is the legislative foundation of the land use process, including decisions by Planning Boards and Zoning Boards of Adjustment, in the State of New Jersey. It defines the powers and responsibilities of boards and is essential to their functions and decisions.

The Municipal Land Use Law Book, available from NJPO, contains the body of the law itself: Chapter 291, Laws of N.J. 1975, New Jersey Statues Annotated, compiled as 40:55D - 1 et. seq., with amendments, and is indexed.
