Thank you, to all of the volunteer instructors and NJPO coordinators who made the 2008 round of programs so successful.
Certificates for mandatory training are generated by the Department of Community Affairs. NJPO will list all certified officials on this website to acknowledge their completion of the training.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
NJPO Mandatory Training Programs Are Designed toThe mandatory
education act for planning board and zoning board members was enacted in
2005. NJPO
mandatory training programs are modeled against the
curriculum in the standards created and adopted by the Office of Smart Growth in
the Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The agency requires that
each individual must pass a multiple choice test with a score of not less than
70 percent to become certified and remain on a board.
The standards were officially adopted and published in the New
Jersey Register, July 17, 2006.
NJPO is certified by the Department of Community Affairs to present the courses.
All members (regardless of length of service)
of planning boards and zoning boards—unless specifically exempt by law— must
take the training to participate as a board member. The
law stipulates that the one day program cannot exceed five hours.
NJPO experts - a professional planner, board attorney, county planner and professional engineer—
present sessions.
Sessions are in the traditional NJPO format—one for new planning board
members, another for new zoning board members and another for experienced,
current members. The DCA training standards will apply, but tailored to
emphasize the
individual need of each member. NJPO volunteers will assist with registrations
and on-site logistics.
NJPO has
been certified by the Department of Community Affairs to
conduct mandatory training programs according to the
adopted standards developed by DCA. Attendees who
have completed the five hour program and mandatory test
successfully, will receive certificates from the state
agency sometime after the conclusion of the program.
NJPO thanks the
instructors, attendees, NJPO on-site volunteers,
municipal land use administrators, clerks, county
planning directors and facility coordinators
throughout the State who help make NJPO Educational Programs a
success.
